History on this clock
History is the list of fasts you already finished on this clock. You can log a missed fast, correct a time, and see counts of those hours. Those counts do not keep a streak of days, and friends cannot see them.
Using the Clock · Part 4 of 5 · Fasting Library
History is the list of fasts you already finished on this clock. Open it from History at the bottom of the screen. The page title is History & Insights. The numbers on that page add up the hours you logged.
This list is not a history of fasting in medicine, religion, or protest. If you wanted how people fasted before phone timers, start with Fasting before it was a “biohack”.
Press End Fast and the clock saves the row
Press End Fast on the online fasting timer. The clock saves that fast as completed, including when you eat earlier than the hours you picked. A fast of 12 hours, on a day you had picked 16, is still a finished fast. Leave that row on the list. Do not start a longer fast the next day to make up for the hours you did not reach.
The 16:8 page and the OMAD page write to this same list. They are the same timer, with that hour button already chosen.
A fast that is still running does not appear as a past row. It appears after you press End Fast. If the fast is still running and you tapped Start late, use Edit Start Time on the timer, next to the start time. Presets on this clock says what that button changes. History is for a fast that has already ended.
Log a fast you did not start on the timer
On History, tap a day on the calendar. If that day has no fast yet, a form opens. It asks for the date, the time the fast started, how many hours and minutes it ran, and a note you can leave blank. The start time opens at 8:00 pm, and the hours open at 16. Change both to the times you actually used, then tap Save to history.
The shortest time you can enter is one minute. The hours box accepts up to 168 hours, which is 7 days. The fast cannot end in the future. If a fast is running now, the times you enter cannot overlap that fast.
If the day already has a fast, you see the fasts that started that day. You can edit one of them, or tap Log another fast and fill in the same form.
The ring shows the longest fast that started that day
The calendar shows one month at a time. You can move back to earlier months. You cannot move past the current month.
A ring on a day uses the longest fast that started that day, even if the fast ended the next morning. A full ring means 24 hours. A fast of 36 hours fills that same ring once. It does not draw a second ring for the extra hours. The hours themselves are on the row under the calendar.
If you have never finished a fast on this clock, the list says to start the first one from the Timer tab. If you are looking at a month that has none, the list names that month and says no fasts were logged in it.
Each row shows the times and a stage name
Past fasts, under the calendar, lists the fasts that started in the month you are viewing. Each row shows a stage name, the start time, the end time, and how long the fast ran. A note you typed appears under the times.
The stage name follows the hours that passed. What the stages on the timer mean lists each name and the hours it covers. The name does not come from a blood test. If you change the stage name in Edit, the label on the row changes, and a blood test you already had stays the same.
If you started that fast with the Open button, the row says Open. A fast you type in from the calendar is stored with no hour button, so that row also says Open. If you set the row to Cancelled in Edit, the word Cancelled appears on it.
The four numbers add up the hours you logged
Above the list of past fasts, the current month shows four numbers: completed fasts, longest fast, average duration, and total fasting time. If you are looking at an earlier month, those four numbers use that month’s name instead of “This month.” All time, below the list, shows the same four numbers for every completed fast saved on this clock.
A larger total means the hours you logged add up to more. It does not mean those fasts were safer, and it does not mean you should go longer next time. This clock does not keep a streak.
Press End Fast saves the fast as Completed, even when you stop early. Cancelled is a choice you make in Edit. A cancelled row stays in the month list. The four numbers leave that row out.
Edit changes a row, and Delete removes it
Edit lets you change the start, the end, the status, the stage name, and the note. Status is Completed or Cancelled. Save changes keeps the row with those new times.
Delete asks “Delete this fast?” and says the removal cannot be undone. Delete permanently removes that one row. Keep it leaves the row on the list.
The list stays on this device unless you sign in
If you are not signed in, the list stays on this phone or computer until you clear this site’s data or cache. You do not need an account to finish a fast or to see History.
If you create an account, the list already on this device is added to that new account, so you can open the same list on another phone. If you sign in to an account you already have, the clock asks whether to add the fasts saved on this device to that account. Keep separate leaves them on this device for when no one is signed in. After you are signed in, the list updates when you open the site, come back to this tab, reconnect, or tap Sync now in Settings. Signing out sends the list to your account, then removes it from this device. The list comes back when you sign in again.
In Settings, under Your data, Export CSV and Export JSON save a copy of the history on this device. Import file reads a CSV or JSON file from this clock or from another timer. The file needs a start time and an end time, or a start time and a duration. A row that is already in your list, or that overlaps one, is skipped. That file is a copy you keep. It is not sent to friends.
Friends cannot see these hours
Friends, if you use them, can see whether you are fasting or not fasting. They cannot see this list, the hours on a row, or the hour button you picked. There is no public ranking of fasts. This list does not record your weight, and the note box is a short note you type, not a meal log.
If you feel unwell, stop, eat, and keep the short row
If you feel dizzy, confused, faint, or have chest pain, stop and eat. The signs are in When to stop a fast. Press End Fast so the list shows the hour you actually stopped, even when that hour is earlier than you planned.
Open the online fasting timer when you want the clock. Open History when you want the list, or when you need to write in a fast you forgot to start.
Key takeaways
- History is the list of fasts you already finished on this clock. Press End Fast and the clock saves the row, including when you eat earlier than you planned.
- Tap a day to log a fast you did not start on the timer. Enter at least one minute, and no more than 168 hours. The end cannot be in the future.
- A full ring on a day means 24 hours. A longer fast fills that ring once. The hours are on the row, which uses the day the fast started.
- The four numbers add up completed fasts. A larger total means you logged more hours. This clock does not keep a streak of days, and a stage name does not come from a blood test.
- Without an account, the list stays on this device until you clear this site’s data. Friends can see whether you are fasting or not fasting. They cannot see these hours.
- If you feel dizzy, confused, faint, or have chest pain, stop, eat, and leave the short row on the list.
